Get your data from Instagram

Direct link (login required): Accounts Center — Download your information

  1. Open Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
  2. Choose Download or transfer information, then Some of your information.
  3. Select Followers and following only—keeps the file smaller.
  4. Request the download and wait for Instagram to prepare it.
  5. When ready, download the ZIP and unzip it on your computer.
  6. Open connections/followers_and_following and find following.json and a followers file (often followers_1.json).

Menu labels can vary by app version or region. Look for “download your data” inside Accounts Center if the wording differs. For wait times and file details, see the Instagram download guide.

Compare in ListDiff

  1. Open the compare tool.
  2. Upload following.json to List A and your followers JSON to List B—or paste usernames, one per line.
  3. Leave trim spaces and skip blank lines on—the defaults are fine for usernames.
  4. Click Compare lists, then open the tab you need: A only, B only, or Intersection.
  5. Export to CSV if you want a list to review later.

ListDiff never logs into Instagram. Your files stay on your device. Is ListDiff safe?

Common mix-ups

  • Swapped A and B? Results flip. Following always goes in A for this task.
  • Odd mismatches? Turn case-sensitive off, and make sure both sides use usernames—not display names.
  • Extra @ symbols or spaces? Trim handles the usual cases; check the Duplicates tab if counts look off.
  • No followers file? Re-export with full Followers and following selected. A brand-new account with zero followers may have an empty or missing file—that is normal.
