Who doesn't follow you back on Instagram
Last updated: 2026-07-27
Curious who you follow that never followed you back? You do not need a “follow tracker” app that asks for your Instagram password. Download your data from Instagram, compare Following against Followers here, and read the A only tab.
What you will get
- A clear list of accounts you follow who do not follow you back (A only).
- Optionally, who follows you but you do not follow back (B only).
- Your mutual follows (Intersection).
This is not the same as “who unfollowed me lately.” That needs two follower downloads from different dates—see who unfollowed you.
Step by step
- Go to Accounts Center — Download your information (login required). If that link redirects, try: Profile → menu → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
- Choose Download or transfer information → Some of your information → Followers and following.
- Request the download. When Instagram emails you that it is ready, download and unzip the ZIP.
-
In
connections/followers_and_following, findfollowing.jsonand a followers file (oftenfollowers_1.json). - Open the compare tool.
- Upload
following.jsonto List A and the followers JSON to List B. - Paste both sides, leave the defaults on, click Compare lists, and open A only.
No followers file? Re-export with the full Followers and following scope. If your account truly has zero followers, the file may be empty—that is valid, not a bug. See the Instagram download guide for timing and troubleshooting.
A quick example
List A (Following)
alice
bob
carol
List B (Followers)
bob
carol
A only shows alice—you follow her, but she is not in your followers list.
Reading the results
- A only — you follow them; they do not follow you back
- B only — they follow you; you do not follow them back
- Intersection — you follow each other
Always use A = Following and B = Followers for this question. Swap them and the tabs mean something else. More on which side is which: followers vs following.
If something looks wrong
- Too many names in A only? Check that Following is in A and Followers is in B—not the other way around.
- Random mismatches? Use usernames only, turn case-sensitive off, and leave trim spaces on.
- Cannot find the files? Search the unzipped folder for filenames containing “follow”.
FAQ
Can I do this without a third-party app?
Yes. Official Instagram download + ListDiff in your browser is enough. No extra login.
Is it free?
Yes. ListDiff is free and processes your lists locally.
Which tab is the “does not follow back” list?
A only, when A is Following and B is Followers.
Is this the same as finding unfollowers?
No. This compares two lists from one download. Unfollowers needs two follower snapshots from different dates.
